Upon departing Dwellingup the pace is leisurely as the train rolls along westward, down to Isandra Siding, 14 kilometres away. Once there, the locomotive will move to the opposite end of the train during the 30 minute stopover and made ready for the return journey. If you feel like a drink, why not have one in the licensed cafe car!

On the return journey, you will be in awe of the magnificent sights and sounds of a Steam Locomotive – hard at work climbing Western Australia’s steepest and most spectacular section of railway, through the Darling Range Escarpment, which has an amazing portion of steeply graded and tightly curved railway manually carved, which once so masterfully served the timber industry and the agricultural areas of Dwellingup and beyond.

The Steam Ranger operates twice a day on most days including Saturdays and Wednesdays during the Western Australian school holidays.

From the moment you arrive at Dwellingup Station, just 97 kilometres and roughly 1 hour 15 minutess from Perth, you’ll sense you’re about to embark on a journey with a difference.

The historic Dwellingup Forest Train will take you 8 Kilometres eastward from Dwellingup to Etmilyn, along the state’s last surviving lightly built developmental railway.

At the end of the line there is a 20-25 minute walk trail through the beautiful plant life and seasonal wildflowers of the rare Jarrah Forest.

The Dwellingup Forest Train services are open air wagon, and are hauled by one of their historic Diesel Locomotives. They operate twice a day on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.

At Dwellingup Station, board the Restaurant Train complete with 1919 Vintage Dining Car and 1884 Club Car.

Enjoy a 5 course meal in the dining car or club car, served from the on-board wood stove as the train meanders through the night forest which is softly floodlit from the train.

The Restaurant Train operates every Saturday evening (and selected Friday evenings) throughout the year (excluding Good Friday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day).

Bookings are required as this service only seats 46 persons.
