Bathurst Rail Museum

Galleries, Museums and Collections

The Bathurst Rail Museum is housed in the historic Railway Institute Building near the city’s train station.

Explore the stories of Bathurst’s community and their connection to rail history. Follow the social history stories and learn about the importance of rail for NSW, the region and the Bathurst community.

Be amazed by a model railway the size of a tennis court that’s modelled on the 1950s/60s-era Bathurst-Tarana line. Watch the miniature operating trains and spot the tiny people, cars and sheep.

Relax with a coffee from the museum’s cafe in the red train carriage outside or head into Kids Central, the children’s play gallery with the world’s largest permanent Brio set (a gigantic toy railway).
