Hospital Creek

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Seventeen kilometres north of Brewarrina on the Goodooga Road, on the left hand side of the road, just a few metres before the Hospital Creek Bridge, lies a small memorial with huge significance, dedicated to the men, women and children who were killed in one of the biggest mass slaughters of Aboriginals in New South Wales.

Over time stories get simplified and changed, and the mystery behind the Hospital Creek Massacre is no different. Many versions give different details of this terrible event that occurred in 1859 however, the monument was put there by the land council 1995 in memory of the people massacred.
