Stephen’s Creek Reservoir

Natural Attractions

Stephen’s Creek Weir is located 17 kilometres from Broken Hill on the Barrier Highway. In the past, water shortages were always a problem and the long standing indifference of Sydney governments to Broken Hill’s water supply angered locals.

Until 1914 Stephen’s Creek was the town’s only reservoir, but in 1903 it was completely empty and in 1907 and 1909 it almost dried up. Now the reservoir has a lookout area and is a pleasant place for a picnic and a short stroll. It features a children’s playground, picnic tables and coin operated barbecue.
