You will have a choice of history telling programs: workshops inspired by the flora, fauna and marine life of the river, historical adventures that tell the social and archaeological of the Lower Hawkesbury, and history afloat explorations via kayak and river boat. Tour itineraries range from half day, full day tours to extended weekend tours. Heritage Ventures also provide specially tailored programs suited to your group’s interests whether you are after a walking or kayaking experience, hidden histories storytelling, or botanical immersion.

Discover Spencer’s hidden histories. Village tour, heritage homes and stories of the river, plus tea and yarns at Spencer’s new museum space.

Visit Spencer ‘the hub of the universe’. Enjoy a guided tour of the hidden histories of ‘Fernleigh’ and stories from the famous outdoor pub – the Dunkirk Hotel. Hear about the 1840s stone house on the hill built by ‘Black Charlie’, the Spencer Trading Company and the history of the floating stores and butcher boats when the river was the highway. Visit the site of ‘Ma Hanna’s’ – the last active fishing boatshed on the river and hear stories of boatbuilding and the infamous Green Man Inn.

Join history-teller extraordinaire Max Burns-McRuvie as he regales you with tales – improbable – fabulous and surprisingly true. Heritage Ventures tour starts with a heritage morning tea where we hear stories of the characters and lives of Mangrove Creek. Their walk takes you through the village as they unravel the past, hear a yarn or two including tales of Arthur Philip’s landing at ‘a marshy place’ on his voyage in search of land, food and where in the world he was. Colonial stories, land speculation and resistance.
