Beach to Beach Riverside Walk

National Parks and Reserves

It’s a long way from the coast, but there are beautiful beaches to be found around Deniliquin. The town sits on the banks of the Edward River (Kolety), which has pristine sand and calm water, perfect for swimming, boating, waterskiing and fishing. Follow the Beach to Beach Walk to see the best of the riverside scenery, heritage sites and wildlife.

Join the trail at McLean Beach, walking along the footpath past towering red gums and quiet inlets. You can make a quick detour to the Museum of the Deniliquin and District Historical Society, then look out for the striking ‘Ute on a Pole’ sculpture, which is a tribute to the famous Deni Ute Muster.

The walk continues on to the Island Sanctuary, four hectares of preserved bushland that’s home to kangaroos, plenty of birds and other unique native flora and fauna. Stop for a picnic or pull out your binoculars to look for some of the 80 bird species that live around here. You’ll then enter the Murray Valley Regional Park, before finishing the trail at Willoughbys Beach.

You can cover the whole walk in less than an hour or tackle it in sections, leaving plenty of time for swimming and exploring.
