Poets Drive

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Inspired by Gunnedah’s iconic landmarks and local heroes, you can spot 17 poems mounted on plaques at various locations around town. The drive takes you on a scenic discovery trip through the pretty town, accompanied by poetry by a variety of Australian authors.

Why not start at the iconic Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Statue at Anzac Park? You will find the poem “My country” there, and other poems too! Other locations are St. Mary’s College in Bloomfield Street, Woolshed Reserve off Maitland Street, Red Chief Memorial, State Office Block.

Where can you find “The Man from the Snowy River” by Banjo Paterson? Or “Rain from Nowhere” by Murray Hartin?

Get to know Gunnedah through poetry – even at the Lyrical Loos where you can sit back and listen to beautiful words.
