Pugh’s Lagoon – Smith Park

Natural Attractions

When visiting the historic town of Richmond, you will find a pretty spot called Pugh’s Lagoon, located in Smith Park. The picturesque lagoon has grassy banks and mature trees. The park is a peaceful recreation space where you can stop for a picnic, try a little fishing and the bird watching is also good. Visit or phone the Hawkesbury Visitor Information Centre opposite the RAAF Base and pick up a copy of Wetland Birds of the Sydney Region to help you identify them all.

Pugh’s lagoon is considered an ecological wetland, and it is home to many plant and bird species, you will see ducks, swamp hens, and swans. The park offers adequate parking, excellent barbecue facilities and toilets to make your picnic comfortable.

People following the Hawkesbury Artists trail will also find themselves at Smith Park taking in the scenery and maybe even capturing the setting with an easel and paints. It’s a lovely spot for families, visitors, and artists alike.
