Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Soak up the sights, smells and scenery of Australia’s historic rail adventure – Zig Zag Railway is just 15 minutes from the Blue Mountains. Established in 1869, come and enjoy a relaxing ride on the romantic, nostalgic, impressive steam locomotive as it hauls you over the Great Lithgow Zig Zag.

Zig Zag Railway offers visitors a range of different travel options providing a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the thrill of traveling by rail as it was done in the past. Whether you are visiting to learn about the history, experience steam travel, enjoy the views, or admire the heritage trains; visitors to Zig Zag Railway won’t be disappointed.

There are two journeys available: Clarence Station to Bottom Points return or Bottom Points to Clarence Station return. Tickets are available to book online and through select agencies. No tickets will be available at the stations on the day.

There are also a range of free things to do near the station: utilise the picnic areas and complimentary electric BBQs, dine in the static train carriages, or enjoy the wildlife which includes kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, birds and lizards.

The NSW Government provided more than $5.9 million through Crown Lands and the Department of Regional NSW to rebuild the locomotive workshop, construct a car park, pedestrian crossing and amenities block.
