In the foreground of Saint Mel’s Catholic Church, Audley Street, the Frieze Monument recognises the poet-priest John O’Brien of ‘Around the Boree Log’ fame.

In his 27 years in Narrandera, Father Patrick Hartigan, Catholic Priest and writer, wrote some of this country’s most loved bush poetry, published under the name John O’Brien.

More information about John O’Brien and his life in Narrandera is available from the Narrandera Visitor Information Centre in Cadell Street, and the John O’Brien Heritage Museum, which is located in the Catholic presbytery in Audley Street.
