Nundle Fossicking

The Tamworth region is historically renowned for its gold, gems and mineral discoveries.

Located just 60 kilometres from Tamworth’s Central Business District, Nundle is a quaint and thriving little village. This pretty town is surrounded by undulating hills and streets lined with trees.

Visitors can try their hand fossicking at various sites around Nundle at Swamp Creek Camping Reserve, Hanging Rock Lookout and Crown Reserve and Forest Way Fossicking Site. Many visitors come to Nundle to fossick or pan for gold and sapphires in the Peel River.

The gold rush to Nundle and Hanging Rock began more than 150 years ago. Gold can still be found in the area and is usually found in the sand and gravel at the river’s edge. Precious gems including sapphires, zircon, crystal and prase can also be found in the area.
