The mission statement of The Regent is to create the most diverse, inclusive and exciting venue for the Northern Rivers while honouring the history and legacy of this grand old building. Built in 1947 The Regent has been at the heart of culture in Murwillumbah for over 70 years. It is situated by the beautiful Knox Park, boasting a wildlife island, lake, skate park, playground and gorgeous gardens.
The Regent is being lovingly envisioned for the future by its owner, Allira Cornell, with state-of-the-art projections and 5.1 surround sound in air-conditioned comfort, whilst maintaining the charm and comfort of yesteryear. “The Regent presents a spectacular program of live performances including theatre, comedy, music and more by local and touring artists, comfortably viewed from traditional tiered seating,” she says. The 250 seat auditorium is a premier venue and hub for the arts including films, ( blockbuster, arthouse and cult), film festivals, workshops, live music, theatre, comedy and visual art.
The Regent has a vibrant cafe on site, a licensed bar and an outdoor covered balcony with a view for dining guests.
The World Food kitchen offers Mexican, Byron Bay Pizzas, Khanthaly’s Asian Street Food or Japanese Fusion – depending on the night, as well as coffee, cakes and sweet treats, gourmet choc-tops and vegan popcorn!
The Regent is a part of the innovative M-Arts Precinct – a dedicated area for Artists and the Arts in the Heart of Murwillumbah.
