Marrambidya Wetland

Natural Attractions

A stunning 20-hectare reserve located alongside the Murrumbidgee River only a few minutes from the Wagga Wagga city centre. The wetland features:two kilometres of connected walking tracks (Grade 2), bird hides from which to unobtrusively observe the passing parade of waterbirds, an elevated viewing platform allows visitors to look over the entire wetland. There is a cultural demonstration area including a Wiradjuri/Wiradyuri campsite with gunyahs and bora ring, a Wiradjuri/Wiradyuri Healing Place.

On arrival through the car park, you step through an outdoor art gallery. Each artwork represents a different aspect of the wetland from the Spirit of the Wetland to the Spirits of the night sky. Take a self-guided tour, there’s plenty of informative signage to read – and hear – along the way to learn more about the wildlife and plants that call the wetland home.

The name was selected as the name of this special place to reflect the importance of this site to the local Wiradjuri/Wiradyuri people and to acknowledge the traditional name of the Murrumbidgee River. Water was central to the Wiradjuri/Wiradyuri way of life including the floodplains, creeks, billabongs and the Murrumbidgee River (Marrambidya).

Dogs on leads are welcome at the wetlands. You will be glad you brought your camera and a pair of binoculars along to get up close with the wildlife.
