Riverside Campground and Picnic Area

National Parks and Reserves

Riverside is beside the Macleay Gorges Wilderness Area on the Apsley River. It is remote and unspoiled making it ideal for a day trip or overnight camp. You can swim, fish, walk and canoe here.

Vehicle access is limited to Four Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles with Low Range capacity. This is a necessity due to the steep terrain. No caravans, trailers or motorbikes are permitted. To get to Riverside, travel 50 kilometres east of Walcha along the Moona Plains Road.

Visitor numbers are limited for day use and camping areas. Bookings are essential (fees apply). Bookings can be made via the NPWS website or by calling the National Parks Contact Centre. Once booked, you will be sent a permit and a code which unlocks the boom gate for entry.
