Keringke Arts Aboriginal Art Centre
Things To Do Santa Teresa, MacDonnell, Northern Territory
Keringke Arts is a working art studio environment, providing a direct sale outlet for original artworks, close to Alice Springs. The Keringke style is very distinctive and known for it’s colour and vibrancy.
Eastern Arrernte artistry has features common to ancient rock art and petroglyph designs found throughout Eastern Arrernte homelands. Some designs reflect sand stories or body paintings but most are in a contemporary form, where the artistry is not attributed to a particular source other than the artists creativity.
Designs are created on canvas, ceramics, furniture and even guitars. This Indigenous community art centre is 100% owned and directed by the Eastern Arrente people.
Keringke Arts is located in Santa Teresa, Ltyentye Apurte Aboriginal community, just 81km South East of Alice Springs. Access is via the unsealed Santa Teresa Road, which is generally well maintained and offers stunning Central Australian scenery to travellers.
Open Monday to Thursday 9am to 4pm and Friday by appointment only. Before travelling to the art centre, it’s a good idea to call ahead.
