Wandoan Water Tower

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

The beautiful mural painted on one of the storage tanks acknowledges the story of our early settlers, the people from our district who served in the wars and our early industries. The Wandoan Water Tank is an interesting site in the Australian Silo Art Trail.

Members of the Wandoan Progress came up with the idea, ran a competition to work out what to paint on the tank and this was the finished product.

The tank was painted at night with the help of an overhead projector. This was set up on the ground the image then shone on the tank. The local artists climbed onto the back of a ute and painted the outline and eventually filled it in. A great initiative by a group of proud Wandoan locals.

A recent addition to the water tower has been the evening Light Show. Every night, visitors are welcome to come and gaze upon the light show projected on the grain silos beneath the southern cross.

The light show changes with what is happening in the region promoting activities, events, places of interest and lifestyle. At present the show includes and highlights the works of the photographers who entered the 2022 Senex Wandoan Photo Challenge.
