Arkaroola Astronomical Observatory
Things To Do Arkaroola Village, Outback Communities Authority, South Australia
Arkaroola is one of the best places to gaze at the heavens. We have three different astronomy experiences.
Explore the Cosmos in the Ningana Imaging Observatory is a state of the art, digital experience.
Relax indoors and view the wonders of deep space as our guide operates the telescopes immediately outside the viewing area. The two telescopes with cameras provide an unparalleled and unique real time viewing experience. In just a matter of seconds, deep space objects come to life in full colour and brilliant detail as you relax seated indoors. The configuration of equipment used is much more forgiving of moonlight, allowing the tour to be run every night, although best deep space viewing is outside of the full moon.
Join an Observatory Tour to experience eye-to-telescope viewing. This experience is ideal for those with an astronomy interest. This tour runs at one of 2 observatories above the Village, each equipped with telescopes. Eye-to-telescope viewing requires dark conditions so this tour is only available a week either side of the new moon.
Under the Stars is ideal for the astronomy beginner. View the celestial bodies through astronomy binoculars and learn to locate objects in the sky, all while reclining on your camp chair. Under the Stars requires dark conditions so this tour is only available a week either side of the new moon.
