Victor Harbor National Trust Museum

A museum that steps back in time from pioneer port to seaside resort. It includes local English and French explorers meeting in 1802, whaling history and early shipping history, becoming the main export port for South Australia in the 1800s.

The export products were wool and other agricultural goods that came down the Murray River by paddle steamer then transported from Goolwa on Australia’s first public (horse drawn) railway.

When the train line went from further upstream direct to Port Adelaide, the trade dropped off, soon to be replaced with thousands of tourist holidaymakers.

The museum has interactive displays and tour groups are welcome.

A gift shop is at the reception area. The premises are wheelchair friendly with bus parking adjacent.

They are located near the start of the famous causeway with its horse drawn tram.
