Welcome to Captain Matthew’s Hideaway, where you’ll find a secluded beach, hundreds of acres of native bushland, serenity and peace.

Located on the Forestier Peninsula facing Norfolk Bay, this little spot of paradise was once the site of a convict Probation Station established in 1841. The site is now a completely privately family-owned oasis.

If you enjoy swimming, bushwalking, fishing, birdwatching, diving, sunbaking, animal spotting, boating or just generally being outdoors, then Captain Matthew’s Hideaway is for you!

The glittering V-shaped bay narrows to the mouth of a freshwater creek. Westerly wind waves blowing into the creek mouth have produced a 100m long high tide beach immediately south of the creek mouth, fronted by ridged sand flats that widen to 300 m at the creek mouth.

The bay is bordered by eight uniquely designed shacks that are nestled under the shady tree-covered slopes that rise gloriously to over 100m. A vehicle track from the highway terminates close to the beach where your glorious retreat awaits!

Please note that all campsites are between 50m – 100m from the beach.
