MTB Tas offers numerous mountain bike tours which take place in bushland and mountain tracks in and around Tasmania incorporating some of the amazing new trail developments in areas such as Derby, St Helens, Hollybank, Trevallyn Reserve, Kate Reed and Mount Wellington. They provide the bike, your biggest challenge will be deciding which trip to do first.

They hire mountain bikes on either half-day, daily or weekly rates. The mountain bikes are Scott Hardtails with disc brakes that are well-maintained and ready for your own adventure. These bikes can also be set up for touring if you wish to ride on the roads around Tasmania.

This is the latest trail development in Tasmania and is rightly receiving a lot of positive publicity. On this tour, you will be shown the full range of trail options. We will start with a warm-up on the Green and Blue loops before we drive to the top of the Juggernaut trail to begin a fantastic descent. We can shuttle the top section of this trail a number of times before following it all the way back to the main centre.

We can also offer a shuttle-only service for those with their own bikes who wish to have as many laps on the trail as possible. Get a group together and contact us for a package price.

The most recent addition to the Tassie trail network, the Derby area is set to become one of the most coveted trail areas in the country. The highlight is the fantastic scenery through stunning old growth forest coupled with magnificent trails built with amazing attention to detail. The area has something for everyone, from easier introductory trails right through to some quite challenging ascents/descents.
On this trip, we can customise the day to suit the group due to the numerous options available.
The trip starts in Launceston with hotel pick up at 0830 before we drive through the picturesque northeast to Derby. We then spend the day on the bike with a break for lunch alongside one of the many quiet streams in the area. More riding in the afternoon before returning to Launceston.

This is the ride that we are most famous for, and justifiably so.

The tour is mostly downhill (sorry, yes that was mostly!) so hold on and enjoy the ride. Our local guides will take you on one of the ultimate mountain bike descents possible in Tasmania with a total drop of 1050 vertical metres.

Starting in the alpine ski village at 1450 metres, this awesome trip takes you down the spectacular Jacobs Ladder road before connecting to old four-wheel drive tracks through the eucalypt forests.
There is now a fantastic new single-track section which only has one small up hill before continuing downhill all the way to the Ben Lomond Alpine Resort BASE where we regroup for lunch.

All tours depart on demand.

Tour duration is 6-7 hours (including transport from Launceston and return). Tour cost is AUD295 and includes transfer to/from Ben Lomond, lunch and snacks, bike and helmet or meet us at The Ben Lomond Alpine Resort Base for $255.

One of the best mountain bike specific trails presently on offer in the country, The North-South Track, on Mt Wellington near Hobart, has been built to an extremely high standard, with the workmanship and attention to detail on the trail the only thing likely to distract riders on this awesome descent.
The ride begins with a pick up from Hobart hotels before we drive to The Springs part way up Mt Wellington. From here we unload the bikes and begin the first of a number of trips down the trail for the day. The ride starts straight up with plenty of great flowing single track as we traverse through the wet Eucalypt forest on stage one of the trail, which takes us through to Junction Cabin.
From the cabin, a faster downhill section begins where the grin on your face will match the quality of the track, absolutely huge! We wind our way down through the open eucalypt forest past well-constructed berms, an amazing rock bridge and more single track before we emerge at the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park we then ride back to town on the cycleway.

If you only have a few hours and want to explore some of Launceston’s most popular tracks then this trip is for you.
The Trevallyn Recreation area borders our world-famous Cataract Gorge and has everything from ‘cruisey’ fire trails to fun single track sections.
We can explore the great variety of tracks in this popular mountain bike area. Before we return we will dismount and walk our bikes through what is arguably Launceston’s best natural treasure; the Cataract Gorge.
Note: This ride is recommended for participants who have had some mountain biking experience, for an easier option see the Riverside Trails.
Tour departs on demand 3-4 hours in duration. Tour cost includes lunch, snacks, bike and helmet.

Currently one of Launceston’s most popular riding area due to a recent upgrade by the Launceston Mountain Bike Club who received a $300 000 grant from Sport and Recreation Tasmania for trail construction here and in Trevallyn Reserve. Kate Reed is the first area to see development of purpose build single track that offers great flow with many extra features for use for those with the skills.
This area lends itself to all abilities and makes for a great 2-3 hour ride on the outskirts of Launceston. If you are new to MTB we can tailor the ride to include some basic technique instruction. If you are an experienced rider we can up the tempo to give you not only a fun experience, taking in the extra track components that only become apparent with speed, but also a good work out at the same time.
Tour departs on demand and are 2-4 hours in duration. Tour cost is AUD120 and includes snacks, water, bike and helmet.
