Uncle Rick’s Waaman Tours is led by Djaara Elder and Traditional Custodian Uncle Rick Nelson.
These tours take people out on Dja Dja Wurrung Country to educate visitors about local Aboriginal Culture. This includes visits to scar trees, grinding grooves, water wells and other sites of significance.
As part of these tours, visitors can experience a Welcome to Country and a Smoking Ceremony to connect them and support them with safe travel on Djaara Country.
As well as seeing and connecting with the amazing and beautiful country, Uncle Rick’s tours can include experiencing locally made bush tucker foods as part of the journey.
Uncle Rick has a vast and specialized knowledge of Djaara history and a particular interest and passion for the time in history around the gold rush period.
Uncle Rick is highly respected in his Community and continues the legacy of his late father Uncle Brien Nelson with an ability to foster relations between both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal and work together in the spirit of healing that Country needs.

This Significant Tree Tour will take people out on Country with Senior Djaara Elder Uncle Rick Nelson to visit and experience culturally significant trees on Dja Dja Wurrung Country.
These trees include scar trees, marker and ring trees as well as the Victorian Tree of the Year the Guildford Big Tree.
Uncle Rick will perform a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony as part of the Experience.
