ANZAC Hero, Major General William Throsby Bridge’s trusted steed and the only Australian War Horse of 136,000 to return from the first World War.

Sandy the War Horse was bred in old Tallangatta and celebrated at a Commemorative Statue was unveiled in May 202 at an event lead by an Australian Light Horse Troops full guard of honour consisting of more than 200 horses.

Tallangatta is now the home to a life-size bronze statue of ‘Sandy the War Horse’ by renowned sculpture artist Brett Garling. This life size sculpture of Sandy stands in The Triangles at Tallangatta for all to see.
