Harrow Discovery Centre and Johnny Mullagh Interpretive Centre

Galleries, Museums and Collections

Nestled in the rolling hills of Victoria’s Western District on the banks of the Glenelg River, the Harrow Discovery Centre is the heart of Victoria’s oldest inland settlement.

More than a visitor centre, the centre will take you on one of the most incredible journeys in Australian history.

In 1868, a team of Aboriginal stock workers from south-west Victoria were transformed into Australia’s first international touring sports team to England.

Over 150 years on, the centre is dedicated to telling their story and in particular that of the star all-rounder, Johnny ‘Unaarrimin’ Mullagh.

A proud Wotjobaluk man, Johnny Mullagh scored 1698 runs on the English tour and delivered more than 1,800 overs to the best batsmen in the world at the time with an average of 1/10. Cricket Australia have introduced the Mullagh Medal in honour of the trailblazer from Harrow, to be awarded to the Player of the Match of the boxing day test match. The medal is on display at the centre, as is the second largest private collection of Donald Bradman memorabilia.

Join in and follow the amazing journey and learn of the unbelievable achievements of Australia’s First XI.

The centre is a true destination for sport and history buffs, alike.
