Sanguine Estate
Food and Drink Heathcote, Greater Bendigo, Victoria
The Sanguine Estate vineyard was established by Tony and Linda Hunter in 1997 and is located on the famous 510 million year old Cambrian earth belt just nine minutes drive from the heart of Heathcote.
Over a decade since the first vines were carefully planted by family and friends, they discovered that Tony’s great grandfather, Pietro D’Orsa, had planted a vineyard nearby in the late 1800’s so it has been in the blood all along.
Shiraz is the heart of their vineyard and son Mark Hunter, winemaker and viticulturist, ensures that nature is respected from vine to wine. Other varieties produced include Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Rosé, Cabernet blend and Grenache and will soon be producing Lagrein, Verdejo and Nebbiolo from new vineyard plantings.
Guests to the cellar door are up close and personal with the inner sanctum of both the Heathcote winery and barrel room whilst enjoying a wine tasting and listening to family stories.
Notable annual events include the Annual Wine Blending masterclasses in May, Heathcote on Show in June, Annual Family dinners in August and the Sanguine Estate Music Festival in October.
Sanguine Estate is part of the Heathcote Women in Wine Collaboration.
