Pye Cottage Museum

Galleries, Museums and Collections

Pye Cottage Museum is an original settler’s slab hut that was built in Dalton in 1860. It was donated to the Gunning Historical Society by the Pye family and painstakingly moved to Gunning in 1974. Take a step back in time, view a variety of documents and artefacts and enjoy reliving the historic pioneering days. Pye Cottage Museum is one of the last of its kind in the district, which had been used for generations past by the early settlers of the Highlands.

There are many other historically significant buildings to see and visit in Gunning, many of which date back to the 1800s. Here’s just a couple of suggestions: why not have a quiet drink in the Telegraph Hotel ( dates back to 1858) or a coffee and cake at the Merino Café (dates back to 1881).

Pye Cottage Museum is run entirely by volunteers. For tours of the museum, please phone ahead and make an appointment.
