Roadmaster’s House
Things To Do Darwin, Darwin, Northern Territory
Historical Sites and Heritage Locations
The building was originally constructed by the North Australian Railway to provide staff accommodation. The existing building is typical of houses built by the Commonwealth in Darwin in the 1910s, in terms of its floor plan, roof form, use of materials, and small details such as the roof ventilator and the corrugated iron stove recess.
It was known as the Stella Maris Hostel for seafarers for many years, and it’s now the Roadmaster’s House Museum.
