During this full day tour to “Wallaroo” you’ll discover many hidden secrets contained within the majestic Carnarvon Ranges that are not accessible to the general public. “Wallaroo” is a wildly diverse privately owned 72,000 acre property nestled amongst magnificent sandstone cliffs and only a stones through from Carnarvon Gorge National Park.

You’ll visit Indigenous sites by the Dawson River and rock art hidden in remote bushland. Enjoy lunch in Cycad-filled Gorges – a prehistoric wonderland – and see spectacular rock formations. You’ll also learn how the owners interact with and manage this beautiful landscape to support their family.

Timid fauna and bush flora add to the day’s discovery. Breathtaking views of the Arcadia Valley are a highlight. Short walks from the 4WD mini-bus take you to the sights. Lunch and snacks are included.

Transfers are available from Roma, Injune and the Wallaroo Outback Retreat.

Co-opt a local guide for a deeper insight into Roma’s history, people, the country and industries.

For groups of 8 or more half the day is spent getting up close to the town’s cultural, historical, agricultural and natural attractions. You’ll spend time at the Roma Saleyards (Tuesday’s is best as it is Sale Day) and visit all the highlights including Lake Neverfill, Heroes Avenue, the Biggest Bottle Tree, plus much more. You’ll share many stories about the past and present and you’ll be amazed at just how much there is to know about, see and do in and around Roma.

For the second half of the day you will visit a local orchard not too far out of town, plus give you some time to call into the Overflow and other hidden gems located along the main street.

For a complete experience, ask about add ons such as a Welcome to Country / Smoking Ceremony and a visit to the local Gin Distillery and the magnificent 40 metre Big Rig Tower.

Join our botanist for a 1-day tour to amazing Gurulmundi where conditions support a rare and dazzling diversity of Australian native flora with over 200 species.

Here in a protected web of biodiversity our botanist guide knows where to find unusual specimens and you’ll be inspired to see the bush through fresh eyes. This wildflower hotspot on the crest of the Great Dividing Range features a springtime display of colourful grevilleas, hakeas, wattles, bush peas and many more.

A 5-day science expedition in the Carnarvon Ranges designed to appeal to naturalists, ecology enthusiasts and fit citizen scientists alike. We will explore the remote headwater region of the Dawson River in the Carnarvon Ranges and map the biodiversity there. We hope to find threatened species such as the glossy black-cockatoo and greater glider, while also documenting the other plants and animals we encounter. Led by Boobook Ecological Consulting’s founder, principal ecologist and expert Craig Eddie, this expedition will share new understanding every step of the way. We return each evening to glamping accommodation at the Wallaroo Outback Retreat.

This fascinating tour of Roma and introduction to the region explains the past and present and sees it in the context of its natural attributes and ecology. With an extended visit to the exciting Roma sale yards on sale day, you will understand how the ‘abundance’ Mitchell saw has evolved into the legacy of agriculture in the region.

A highlight is a picnic lunch at Mount Abundance where wildlife and soaring wedge-tailed eagles take refuge, and iconic bottle trees grow in their natural habitat. In the surrounding grasslands and woodlands we may spot emus, black-striped wallabies and grey kangaroos.

With your eco guide, you will uncover the secrets of how humankind and nature continue to adapt to each other here.

Awake to the wonders of the bush on our 1-hour guided walk

Join a small-group, nature-rich journey of discovery, celebrating the beauty of our local reforested bushland. During a leisurely 1-kilometre walk around Roma Bush Gardens, you’ll learn about diverse habitats, from the majestic River Red Gums to the Brigalow open forest. The gardens also feature the picturesque 19th-century Railway Dam, a tranquil haven for water birds.

Your eco-guide will give you fascinating insights into the native vegetation and the vibrant flora and fauna that call this place home.

Our stroll takes around an hour but you are welcome to stay longer for bird watching, photography or even sketching and painting ‘en plein air’!
