Lake St Clair – Great Short Walk
Things To Do Derwent Bridge, Central Highlands, Tasmania
Lake St Clair Walks is one of Tasmania’s 60 Great Short Walks. The 60 Great Short Walks offer the best of Tasmania’s day walking opportunities.
45 mins-1.5 hours, 4.7 km circuit. Watersmeet Track: Grade 2. Platypus Bay and Larmairremener tabelti: Grade 3.
From Cynthia Bay at Lake St Clair, three varied short walks offer a taste of the southern end of the famous Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. The Larmairremener tabelti walk offers an insight into the Aboriginal people who lived around leeawuleena (Lake St Clair) for thousands of years. The Watersmeet Walk takes you to the confluence of the Cuvier and Hugel rivers. A short walk beyond that is a loop to Platypus Bay, where platypus are sometimes seen. All three walks can be combined for a 4.7km figure-of-eight loop.
Please refer to the Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania website (parks.tas.gov.au) for up-to-date information about this walk, alerts, closures, safe walking guidelines, leave no trace principles and National Park entry fees where applicable.
