Parry Creek Road

Natural Attractions

Parry Creek Road follows one of Western Australia’s most scenic and significant waterways, the Ord River, leading you on a barramundi-fishing and nature-spotting 4WD adventure from Wyndham to Kununurra. Stop at the billabongs and river crossings to view prolific birdlife, enormous saltwater crocodiles and iconic Kimberley panoramas.

Take the Great Northern Highway south from Wyndham, and you’ll reach the Parry Creek Road turnoff in under 15 minutes.

Make your first stop at Marlgu Billabong for a chance to spot some of the many birds that visit this tranquil waterhole. A little further along the track is Parry Lagoons Nature Reserve, widely renowned as one of the best spots for catching a glimpse of the rare Gouldian Finch.

If you have your boat in tow, make a stop at Mambi Island or Buttons Gap access points for a chance to explore the lower reaches of the Ord River – a haven for barramundi and big saltwater crocodiles.

See the striking House Roof Hill, a memorable backdrop to many scenes in the movie ‘Australia’. During and after the wet season you can also enjoy a waterfall moment as water tumbles from the Livistonia Range at Black Rock Falls and Middle Springs.
