Ross River Homestead

Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

The stone building has walls of rubble construction with a large stone cooking fireplace at the western end. The building which contains three main rooms was originally erected as a one-room hut. The former end wall is still visible in the mid section of the present roofline. Floors are of flagstone with areas of applied concrete. The main room contains no ceiling. The roof frame is bush timer. The roof has been re-sheeted and the north verandah enclosed. The historical and architectural integrity of the homestead has been lessened by recent additions. However the main stone rubble wall sections remain basically unaltered. The building now forms the centre point of a commercial enterprise.
