Mount Rufus – Great Short Walk

National Parks and Reserves

Mount Rufus is one of Tasmania’s 60 Great Short Walks. The 60 Great Short Walks offer the best of Tasmania’s day walking opportunities.

7 hour circuit, 19km circuit. Grade 4.

While long and occasionally steep, this walk is accessible to capable and well-equipped walkers. The circuit can be walked in either direction, but the undoubted highlight is the view from the summit of Mount Rufus.

In clear weather numerous other mountains can be seen in every direction, including Mount Olympus, Mount Hugel and Frenchmans Cap. During early summer the flowering of scoparia can be spectacular. With an altitude of 1416m, Mount Rufus is sometimes subject to severe weather.

Please refer to the Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania website (parks.tas.gov.au) for up-to-date information about this walk, alerts, closures, safe walking guidelines, leave no trace principles and National Park entry fees where applicable.
